The moon is just a round, grey rock circling our Earth. However, it does appear in many different ways to us, depending on how the sunlight hits it and how our atmosphere interacts with that reflected light. Clouds can frame it or obscure it or create lovely halos from diffracted light, the color can vary from a deep orange to a dark red during lunar eclipses, or a bright white with faint hints of color from the different minerals and varying roughness on its surface.
