In contrast to Light Painting, Light Drawing is a night photography sub-genre where the camera does see the light source. The light is used to create the main object in the image, which makes this perhaps the only photography discipline where the photographer does not only record something that is already there, but rather creates the main object of the composition. The light source can be anything that lights up at night, be that a $1 glow stick or a dedicated $300 tool. And each light drawing is a unique piece of art, because no matter how hard one tries, it is impossible to exactly recreate what has just been done. Light drawing can be complemented with light painting, where larger surfaces are indirectly illuminated to open up or create shadows or emphasize the light drawing.
